Chelsea FC set price-tag for Jorginho with Juventus eyeing the Italian midfielder

Amid speculation linking Chelsea FC midfielder Jorginho with a move to Juventus, the Premier League club have set a €35m price-tag on the Italian. There have been several reports recently regarding Jorginho’s potential transfer to Juventus, where he would reunite with his former Napoli and Chelsea FC manager Maurizio Sarri. Moreover, Juventus’s recent failure to tempt Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo into a move to Turin has led to the reigning Serie A champions to identify Jorginho as their ideal midfield signing.

Juventus have shown no interest in acquiring any of the other players suggested by Barcelona like Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal or Ousmane Dembélé. Furthermore, Barcelona could not finalize a transfer for Juventus maestro Miralem Pjanić in the absence of a swap deal. The cost constraints made it difficult for the Spanish club’s board to greenlight the deal and have withdrawn their interest as a result. Such incidents have made it even more likely for Juventus manager Sarri to focus upon making his first summer transfer window signing in the form of Jorginho, whom he has managed previously on two occasions.

Reports suggesting that a third reunion between the Italian midfielder Jorginho and Maurizio Sarri is on the cards refuse to go away. Also, there have been rumors of ongoing discussions happening between the player’s agent and Juventus for a possible move. Jorginho’s agent had previously done little to quell the speculation regarding his client’s potential transfer to Juventus, stating that Jorginho still had three years left on his existing Chelsea FC contract. However, he also added that if a major Italian club came calling upon his client’s services, it would be difficult for the player to refuse.

Jorginho attracted a lot of criticism by media outlets and football pundits alike during his first season at the Blues following his move from Napoli. He was Sarri’s first signing when the Italian coach was hired by Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich to steer the club towards success. Jorginho was a major player of the Chelsea FC squad in their UEFA Europa League victory that season and featured in all the club’s Premier League games barring one. However, he was often criticized for the team’s lackluster performances in the 2018-19 season.

Jorginho has improved leaps and bounds under new Chelsea FC coach Frank Lampard with his performances being praised throughout the current Premier League season. Along with N’Golo Kante, he has managed to stabilize the Chelsea FC midfield. However, with the rise of youngster Billy Gilmour and his foray into the Chelsea lineup, it remains to be seen whether Jorginho stays put at the Blues or makes the move to Turin to play for Juventus.
