Serie A giants Juventus are eyeing a move for the Blues’ left-back Emerson Palmieri for a while now, with the Italian side keen to sign the defender who has fallen out of favour with Chelsea FC coach Frank Lampard.
Moreover, the Blues are on the hunt for a new left-back this summer and have identified Alex Telles and Ben Chilwell as ideal targets. Now, recent reports indicate the Premier League side have rejected a swap deal offered by Juventus in their bid to sign Emerson. The Italian side had offered Mattia De Sciglio in exchange for Emerson.
However, the Blues have outrightly rejected such a deal. Instead, Frank Lampard wants Juventus to offer Brazilian left-back Alex Sandro in place of De Sciglio if the reigning Serie A champions are keen on signing Emerson.
Sandro has been a terrific performer for Juventus since joining them from FC Porto in 2015 and has played an integral part in his team winning every season of the Serie A since had moved to Turin.
Juventus are very keen on signing Emerson, with new Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri wanting to reunite with his former player whom he managed at the Blues for just a season.
However, with Chelsea FC not willing to let Emerson depart unless a sum of €40m is paid by the Italian side, Juventus have hit a roadblock in the negotiations. The Old Lady are neither willing nor able to pay such an asking price, taking into consideration the financial impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on the team’s income.
It was earlier assumed that Juventus were looking to sign Emerson as an understudy to Alex Sandro, who turns 30 next year.
With Emerson being only 25 years of age and is expected to reach his prime, the Italian defender could be a big part of Juventus’s future. However, Chelsea FC will only let go of him when a player of their choice is offered in an exchange deal. The Blues also have their eyes on Juventus players such as Miralem Pjanić and Federico Bernardeschi.
