Chelsea FC’s hopes of landing Kai Havertz this summer have increased significantly. The 2019-20 Bundesliga season reached its conclusion recently. Havertz’s side Bayer Leverkusen ended their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Mainz. However, the German side could not seal a Champions League spot for next season.
The absence of Champions League football for Leverkyusen would motivate Havertz to seek a transfer away from the Bundesliga side in the summer. Moreover, the asking price for the German starlet would now be in the region of £70 million. Initially, Leverkusen had demanded a sum of £90 million for their midfield prospect.
With the Bundesliga season has finished, there would be greater clarity regarding the future of Havertz beyond this season. Although the Blues are considered the frontrunners in the race to sign the 21-year old German international, Spanish giants Real Madrid have also declared their interest in pursuing Havertz’s signature. Rumors persist that the German playmaker is eager on a move to Spain to play for the Los Blancos.
However, a seemingly lower asking price as compared to Leverkysen’s earlier demands could be a major boost for Frank Lampard’s ambition of bringing Havertz to Stamford Bridge. The Blues manager had admitted recently that there has been no approach yet for the player from the Premier League side. But it is known that the midfielder is a high-priority signing for Lampard’s side.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz stated that there is a possibility that Havertz may stay at the Bundesliga side next season also. However, such a scenario seems highly unlikely. The German international is believed to be wanting a move to the Premier League for quite some time now.
Besides the Blues, Manchester United FC and Liverpool FC have also emerged as suitors for Havertz’s signing. However, it is Chelsea FC that have taken an aggressive approach towards finalizing a deal for the on-fire Bundesliga talent. The Blues certainly have the financial might to pull off a deal worth £70 million in the summer.
Frank Lampard has been reported to be delighted at the prospect of fielding Havertz and Timo Werner for the Blues next season. Both players have been in exceptional form for their teams in the German league. The Chelsea FC boss is hoping that the two youngsters can replicate their current form next season as well in the Premier League.
