Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich is willing to bankroll a colossal singing for his club in the form of English left-back Ben Chilwell.
The player, who currently plays for Premier League side Leicester City, has caught the eye of the Blues manager Frank Lampard, with Lampard being very keen on securing a transfer for Chilwell this summer and end his long hunt for a left-back.
Leicester are believed to be willing to let go of Chilwell only for the right price, which was reported to be in the region of £85m before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, due to the financial shortfall in the income of football teams around the world due to the spread of the ongoing pandemic, the Blues are hopeful that Leicester would let go of their prized player in a deal which will cost Chelsea FC much less than £85m.
Chilwell has impressed for Leicester since making his debut for them in 2015 and was a part of England’s national team that secured the third position in last year’s UEFA Nations League.
The Blues are desperately searching the transfer market for a new left-back for quite some time now. Current Chelsea FC left-backs Marcos Alonso and Emerson have done very little to impress their manager Lampard in giving them a position in the starting lineup.
Moreover, Emerson is being targeted by Italian side Juventus as a possible signing this summer. The Blues have been previously linked to a number of brilliant left-backs, namely Alex Telles and Nicolas Tagliafico.
However, Chilwell remains high on Lampard’s wish list ahead of the start of next season, with the former Chelsea FC player turned manager wanting the English left-back in his squad. Also, Chelsea FC fans are eagerly awaiting new signings in the upcoming transfer window, having seen their club being hit with a transfer ban last season.
