The Chelsea manager Frank Lampard says his side’s drilling on set-pieces and the return of the fans to Stamford Bridge played key roles in his side’s 3-1 victory against Leeds on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
The fans were present in the stadium to watch the Blues in action for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic pushed the suspension of Premier League in March and resulted in games being played behind closed doors.
‘It was great to have them back, their input was huge with the noise they made,’ was Lampard’s reaction to finally having support again.’
‘You could see how excited they were at the end that we are top of the league,’ said Lampard as per Chelsea’s official website.
Chelsea had a rough beginning when Patrick Bamford gave Leeds the benefit, but Giroud pulled the home side back to level before the half-hour mark.
Chelsea’s defender, Kurt Zouma rose to meet the corner of Manson Mount at the back post to head them into the guide and Christian Pulisic rounded off the scoring with a goal in stoppage time.
Frank Lampard was very delighted to see their set-piece practice paying off and said the presence of the 2,000 supporters gave his side an added advantage.
The Blues’ manager also said that it is quite incredible what the fans can do. They brought their true support and much love against a good team. Lampard is very glad because the team got the outcome that was expected by the fans.
