Chelsea’s coach, Frank Lampard exclaimed that the supporters are not wrong to dream that Chelsea can win the Premier League this season. Although Lampard seemed quite optimistic about winning, he also stressed that the players cannot get casual after such hard works are repaid in form of positive back-to-back results.
After nine months of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the stadium was opened for the fans and about 2000 fans visited Stamford Bridge to watch the match.
Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Leeds United helped them move to the top of the League table temporarily for the first time since the month of September in 2018.
When asked if the fans are right to consider them title contenders for this season, Lampard told reporters as per the Official Chelsea website that there’s certainly nothing wrong with the fans thinking about their favourite club winning the title.
‘You could see how excited they were at the end that we are top of the league. My job and our job is to know that it is a long season and the next question is how consistent can we be with this form, how much can we improve because I believe there is lot more we can do, and there will be a lot of challenges ahead,’ said Lampard.
‘I’ll enjoy the evening. I will have a small glass of wine, maybe a large one, but at the same time we need to make sure we stay grounded – but there were a lot of good things.’
‘To play against Leeds with the form they are in, and the type of team they are, and to be that dominant in terms of chances was a real great performance from us.’
Chelsea was trailing by one goal and the pressure was on them in the initial minutes of the game but Lampard’s team fought back brilliantly.
Olivier Giroud scored the much-needed equalizer while Kurt Zouma’s goal gave Chelsea the deserving lead. The visitors fought hard and threatened to make a comeback but Christia Pulisic confirmed the three points by scoring late in the extra time of the match.
