When Chelsea hosted Manchester City on Saturday, a disrespectful Chelsea fan hurled racist comments towards England superstar Raheem Sterling.
Despite handing Manchester City their first defeat of the season and claiming all three points in a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, there was a dark cloud over Chelsea football club. The Blues climbed to fourth place in the Premier League table but during the course of the game, a fan was seen hurling racist comments towards Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.
The incident took place when Sterling collected the ball near the sidelines to take a quick thrown in and TV coverage spotted a man, possibly in his mid-40’s, wearing a blue coat and glasses appeared to call City forward Sterling a fucking black cunt.
Cameras and other news presenters across England came to the aid of Sterling and indicated that no such behavior should be tolerated and if found guilty, the fan should be banned.
BT Sports presenter Jake Humphrey posted a tweet on social media, “We’ll make sure the relevant people are sent the footage directly.”
The Metropolitan police confirmed that it would be “reviewed to see if any offense has been committed”.
A Chelsea spokesman also stated, “We are aware of video footage and reports. We will investigate the matter and take the strongest possible action where necessary.”
It seems quite certain that the Chelsea fan who is accused of abusing 24-year-old Sterling racially will be found. It’s also suspected that the fan should receive a lifetime ban as a result of this shameful behavior as the current norm supported by football clubs is to ban fans who are caught being racist towards footballers.
Shamefully, this is the second time that racial abuse has been found in the Premier League as only last week a Tottenham fan threw a banana at Arsenal star Pierre Emerick Aubameyang during the Gunners’ 4-2 victory over their local rivals.
