Real Madrid star centre-back Raphael Varane is more likely to make the move to Old Trafford this summer in what comes as a major blow to Chelsea’s transfer plans for the World Cup-winning defender.
Varane is believed to a top target for the Blues who remain on the lookout for defensive reinforcements ahead of the start of the 2021-22 season in which the Champions of Europe will be keen to seek title-winning glory.
Chelsea gaffer Thomas Tuchel has identified the France international as one of the top names on his shopping list for the summer with Varane yet to agree upon an extended deal with Real Madrid.
Reports from The Atheltic, however, claim that it is Manchester United who are leading the pack to sign the Frenchman with Madrid seeking a payout in the region of £40-45 million to part ways with their first-team defensive name.
Varane is currently with the national team at the UEFA European Championships where he is backed to be an influential presence in the backline for Didier Deschamps’s men who are one of the favourites tipped to be crowned the champions.
