According to Fichajes, Chelsea is facing stiff competition from Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race to sign Portuguese sensation Joao Neves.
The Benfica star has been an absolute sensation for club and country. Joao Neves has made 45 appearances this season and has also won four caps for his national side.
The midfielder has been linked to several elite clubs like PSG, Barca, Real, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. His parent club are aware of the interest in their wunderkind and hence, they’re working to extend his contract.
This would help them to include a mammoth release clause worth €120m to €150m. That would be a huge financial gain for Benfica but it would certainly be enough to burn the pockets of any potential suitor.

Neves has made a reputation for being a tough defensive midfielder who can also contribute in attacking moves. The youngster’s passing abilities and ball control have impressed the scouts.
It’s no secret that Chelsea is always looking for talented young players and are actively spending millions to nurture such players at Stamford Bridge. Neves would be no different and Todd Boehly’s side have their eyes set on the midfielder.
However, Real and Barca are looking for a replacement for Luka Modric and Sergio Busquets. They feel that the Portuguese star Joao Neves is a long-term solution for their plans.
We believe that it would be difficult for the Blaugrana to meet such a huge asking price but Real Madrid can certainly make a deal out of this one. The Blues need to be one step ahead if they want to leap ahead in this tight race.

Joao Neves’ value is skyrocketing after every game and he won’t be overlooked this summer. It remains to be seen which club emerges victorious in this high-octane transfer saga.
Chelsea recently signed Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia but the latter is struggling with injury issues. Enzo Fernandez has been the real deal and along with Caicedo, he has formed a solid pairing.
It seems highly unlikely that they will spend such a huge fee on another defensive midfielder.
