Chelsea face competition from domestic rivals Liverpool in the chase to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the upcoming January transfer window.
De Jong was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer window this year only for the Holland international to stay put at Camp Nou which has not been the best of decisions made by De Jong.
The midfield man has started just five games this season for the Catalan outfit and could find himself out the exit door soon with Barcelona’s financial woes not expected to subside as they look to be in line to exit the Champions League.
According to a report from Metro, it is claimed that Chelsea and Liverpool have made contact with De Jong who will be exploring his options in January and could be interested in making the move to the Premier League.
Graham Potter is unable to call upon the services of Chelsea’s anchorman N’Golo Kante who is on the sidelines for the next four months after undergoing surgery and Potter is expected to dip into the market for an emergency signing.
