Chelsea face an uphill battle to retain contract rebel Mason Mount at the club beyond the summer with Liverpool pushing to sign the England midfielder.
The incoming Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino is said to be keen on keeping Mount heading into the next season but that appears to be an unlikely scenario with each passing day.
Mount’s demands for a major hike in wages has not been entertained by the Chelsea hierarchy who nevertheless have made efforts to convince the 24-year-old to stay put as rival clubs wait eagerly in the wings for the playmaker’s services.
According to a report from The Sun, it is claimed that Pochettino’s arrival could be too late to save the negotiations that have long been underway with Mount and his representatives over extending his current deal which is due to expire in June 2024.
It is believed that a one-year extension offered to the player was rejected straightway as Mount’s camp saw it as a ploy to increase his price tag – currently standing at a sizable £60 million.
