Chelsea has identified Cagliari’s Sebastian Walukiewicz as per Football.London reports, to replace their veteran defender, Thiago silva. The Brazilian defender joined Chelsea as a free agent this summer transfer window with one year contract and although his contract will be extended for another year as well, the board is already thinking about the future.
Although signing Silva was a risk, it has been a huge hit as Chelsea has been solid in the defense more than ever. His presence not only rejuvenated the backline but also helped the others to improve drastically.
His partnership with Kurt Zouma has been rock solid and have achieved back to back clean sheets as well. All the defensive headaches and leaky goals have been fixed and now the Blues are well set to win the Premier League title. Frank Lampard’s side is currently in the third position in the league and has also progressed to the next round of UCL being the group leader.
However, the 36-year-old former PSG captain is on the verge of ending his footballing career and the board thinks Walukiewicz can well fit in the role. The defender joined the Italian side in the previous year and has performed excellently for his side. It is also reported that Sebastian will cost £54m and in order to purchase him, Chelsea will have to fight with Manchester United and Liverpool as well.
Moreover, the Italian side, Inter Milan is closely monitoring as well. So landing him amidst all these interests will be a huge challenge for the Blues.
Walukiewicz has played 10 Serie A games this campaign and has an assist to his name. The Blues had to make a clever move soon as to replace Silva in the future who is speculated to join Fluminense as the last step of his career.
