Chelsea are revealed to be eyeing up a move for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku as Romelu Lukaku’s replacement, according to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Lukaku is believed to be closing in on a move away from west London this summer with the striker’s former club Inter Milan keen on re-signing their former talisman in a loan deal.
Despite Chelsea refusing to budge on the loan fee for Lukaku’s potential return to San Siro before the transfer window closes, there is strong speculation that Thomas Tuchel would be interested in parting ways with the misfiring Belgian forward.
On the lookout for a replacement to provide much-needed firepower in the attacking third of the pitch for Chelsea, Frenchman Christopher Nkunku, on the back of his excellent campaign last term, is tipped to be a top name on the wishlist.
Romano, in his column for Caught Offside, has sounded out that Chelsea remain in the mix for the Nkunku who is also wanted by Chelsea’s local rivals Arsenal but carries a hefty price tag of over €100 million with Leipzig in no mood to lose him this summer.
So far Leipzig have not received any offers from the Gunners for Christopher Nkunku, but I can reveal that Chelsea have been following him for some time. Still, the price is over €100m because Leipzig want to try to keep him at all costs, and could even offer him a new contract this summer. Of course, Chelsea have problems up front with Romelu Lukaku, so it’s not surprising Nkunku could be seen as a replacement, but for now there’s not much to report.
