Chelsea have reportedly entered into talks to sign midfield talent Gavi from Barcelona this summer with the Blues keen to snap up the Spain international to bolster their engine room.
Gavi, one of Barca’s most prized assets after his emergence from the club’s famed youth setup, committed his future to his boyhood club last year by penning a big-money deal that boasted of an eyewatering £866 million release clause.
La Liga, however, has refused to ratify that agreement due to Barcelona’s financial issues and Gavi has since reverted to his much less lucrative youth terms and the teenager would be heading into free agency come the summer.
According to a report from the Spanish publication AS, it is claimed that Chelsea are looking to step up their efforts to sign the Barcelona starlet and are persuading Gavi to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
It is said that Gavi’s agent Ivan de la Pena had held meetings with representatives from Chelsea, including the West London outfit’s sporting director Christopher Vivell, in Madrid.
