Chelsea have put goalkeeper Robert Sanchez on the summer transfer list, just seven months after he joined the club for £25 million.
This news comes as a huge surprise since the keeper has been a regular presence for the Blues in front of the nets. As per Football London, the Spaniard has fallen out of favour with the club’s hierarchy and that could trigger a move.
The 26-year-old was signed before the start of the season as the club marked a new era under Mauricio Pochettino. Chelsea sold Edouard Mendy to Al-Ahli and allowed Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave on loan to Real Madrid.
Djordje Petrovic and Sanchez were roped in as replacements. The former Brighton and Hove Albion shot-stopper was particularly attracting a lot of attention due to his outstanding performances for the Seagulls under Roberto de Zerbi.
However, his recent displays have not helped his stature at the club and Todd Boehly is now looking to list the keeper in the upcoming summer transfer window.
This would certainly come as a huge blow for Sanchez. Petrovic would be the favourite to take his place in the squad.
The former New England Revolution star could be given a chance to prove himself in the starting XI until and unless the club signs a new first-choice keeper.
It remains to be seen whether Sanchez will be able to turn the tables or decide to leave the club this summer. The fans wouldn’t be pleased with the way the club has treated the player.
For now, the former Brighton star will be working to stay fit and start as many games as possible for Chelsea this season.
