Serie A side Atalanta have confirmed the signing of Chelsea wing-back Davide Zappacosta in a permanent move for the player who returns to his homeland this summer.
Reports from Chelsea’s official club website have stated that the 29-year-old Italy international has linked up with Atalanta who were strong favourites to land his signature in the transfer window.
Zappacosta had fallen out of favour in the first-team ranks at Stamford Bridge over the past couple of campaigns in which he had been shipped out on loan spells to AS Roma and Genoa where he had been involved in regular on-field action.
With the new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel having the likes of Reece James and the skipper Cesar Azpilicueta to draft in the wing-back roles for the Blues, Zappacosta had been backed to be deemed surplus to requirements this time around and be offloaded on a permanent basis.
Zappacosta had featured for Chelsea in the pre-season camp earlier this summer following his return to the fold after a loan stint in the Serie A for Genoa despite the talk of the player heading out the exit door.
