According to the latest reports, Blues defender Cesar Azpilicueta has extended his contract for another four years with Chelsea which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.
There is a lot of positive news surrounding Stamford Bridge at the moment as the West London club is still in the 3rd on the Premier League table and still fighting for the Premiership. However, there is more good news following midfielder N’golo Kante signing a new deal at the club as Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta has now also signed on a new deal.
Ever since arriving back in 2012 from Ligue 1 side Marseille, Azpilicueta has made 298 appearances for Chelsea and has managed to win the Premier League on two occasions. Azpilicueta has been one of the most consistent performers for Chelsea in over six seasons with the Blues and has recently been named the captain of the club under new manager Maurizio Sarri.
Azpilicueta has started all of Chelsea’s 14 Premier League matches this season but his previous deal was set to expire in 2020 after he signed a three and a half year contract back in the summer of 2016. But having put his signature on new papers, Azpilicueta will be tied down to Chelsea until the summer of 2022.
The veteran 29-year-old Spaniard will receive a wage hike and earn £150,000 a week from now onwards. Upon signing his new contract Azpilicueta said, “Since I came, I felt the joy and responsibility to play for this club, these fans, Every time I go on the pitch I try to do my best. Hopefully, there is a lot to come and we can keep Chelsea where it belongs.”
Chelsea is doing a very sensible thing by tying down players at the club so that Maurizio Sarri can build a future with a solid base. Azpilicueta will be hoping to win a lot more silverware in his Chelsea career until his new contract expires.
