Chelsea credited with a strong interest in signing Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt

Chelsea have been credited with a strong interest in signing Dutch central defender Matthijs De Ligt despite his huge price-tag slapped on him by Serie A heavyweights Juventus.

Thomas Tuchel’s camp have long chased a new signing for their defensive department but failed to land Jules Kounde from Sevilla in this summer’s transfer window.

The France international was a key target for the Chelsea boss Tuchel who made repeated attempts to sign him in a big-money deal only for Sevilla to play hardball over pricing concerns.

Reports from The Mirror have indicated that Juventus first-teamer De Ligt remains on the radar of the Blues who could be in line to lose an important defensive star at Stamford Bridge in Antonio Rudiger heading into the 2022 summer.

Rudiger has his deal with the west Londoners coming to a close in less than ten months and with wage demands the stalling point in the talks between the club and the player, Tuchel is wary of losing out on the Germany international with PSG and Bayern Munich in the fray.
