Chelsea could make an approach to sign Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu in a cut-price deal following a setback in pursuit of Soyuncu’s teammate Wesley Fofana.
Thomas Tuchel had set his sights on landing Fofana in this summer’s transfer window after the Chelsea head coach’s efforts to bring Jules Kounde to Stamford Bridge appeared to go in vain courtesy of Barcelona’s interest in the centre-back.
Recent reports, however, have dampened Chelsea’s hopes of signing the 21-year-old Fofana from the Leicester camp which is looking to pocket an astronomical offer to part ways with the defender who signed a new long-term deal this March.
According to a claim from The Daily Express, failure to prize away Fofana from the King Power Stadium in the summer window opens the door of opportunity for Chelsea to keep tabs on another Leicester centre-back in the Turkey international Soyuncu.
He has fallen out of favour under Brendan Rodgers in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign and with Soyuncu into the final 12 months of contract with the Foxes, Chelsea’s approach for the player could well get them their second new defensive signing.
