Chelsea reportedly wants to bring on loan defender Ethan Ampadu back to the club in January due to his lack of first-team opportunities for RB Leipzig.
The 19-year-old midfield sensation has not kicked a ball yet for the fifth-placed Bundesliga outfit this season.
His national team boss Ryan Giggs admitted that he is worried about Ethan Ampadu’s development.
Giggs said: “It is a concern because Ethan is at the age now where he has to play.
“He’s had a few problems there injury-wise, nothing serious but little aches and pains.
“The last few camps he’s looked so much better in training.
“He is such a talent it’s hard to ignore. But it’s very difficult for him to play 90 minutes and back-to-back games because he’s not had the minutes.”
The Blues bought the young Welshman from Exeter City and got a glimpse of the combative, yet highly talented, defender and midfielder.
He made his Premier League debut against Huddersfield in December 2017 with Antonio Conte at the helm, but last season his game time in the first team went down.
That Wales international made three Europa League appearances, with two more in the FA Cup with Maurizio Sarri at the helm.
Chelsea rate Ampadu very highly and sent him on loan to the Bundesliga side in the hope that he will develop with first-team opportunities and Champions League experience, but things have not gone according to plan for the London club.
Lampard admitted at the start of the season that he is a fan of the 19-year-old and wanted him to get more game time elsewhere but with Chelsea looking porous at the back Lampard might feel like he could use Ampadu.
