Chelsea could miss out on signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in the coming transfer windows with Manchester United emerging as the frontrunner for the player’s signature.
Alvarez was a top name on Chelsea’s radar in the final stages of last summer’s window with the Blues unable to strike an agreement with Ajax to bring in the 25-year-old.
According to a report from the Italian news publication Calciomercato, it is claimed that the Blues could be beaten to the signing of their long-standing target with Manchester United joining the chase to land the midfielder.
The presence of Antony and Lisandro Martinez, Alvarez’s former Ajax teammates, in the Old Trafford camp is expected to swing the scales in United’s favor should they step up their approach to sign Alvarez who has been an influential performer for club and country.
When the transfer window reopens for business in the New Year, we could see a contest on the transfer front between the two Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United for one of the top talents in world football.
