Chelsea could have Antonio Rudiger and Reece James returning from injuries ahead of Thursday night’s travels to Old Trafford in the Premier League.
The England international wing-back James was forced to sit out the 1-0 win over West Ham United last time around with a recurring injury problem in a fresh blow on the injury front for the Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
Rudiger, meanwhile, has been sidelined since the FA Cup semi-final win against Crystal Palace with the Germany international gone missing at a time when his Stamford Bridge future hangs in the balance.
Tuchel sounded out an encouraging update in his pre-match presser ahead of the United clash with the boss revealing that both Rudiger and James had returned to training but would be subject to further assessment.
Midfield maestro Mateo Kovacic, however, remains out of the picture to feature in the upcoming game with the Croatian international joined on the sidelines by long-term absentees Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
“Kova will still be out, and Ben Chilwell will still be out. Callum still out,” Tuchel said.
“Toni & Reece James in training. We have another training, so hopefully, they can give us the green light. Same with Andreas, as he felt sick. Ross Barkley is sick as well.”
