Chelsea are reportedly mulling over making an offer for Villarreal defender Pau Torres this summer in light of another setback for Thomas Tuchel’s side in pursuit of Jules Kounde.
The French centre-back, who has been a top name on Tuchel’s shopping list since last year, is wanted by Barcelona too and the Catalans have made repeated attempts to hijack Chelsea’s approach to sign him.
According to a claim from 90min, Chelsea are now set to look at other alternatives in the transfer market with another defensive signing understood to be a priority for the Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel before the next season kicks off.
Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres has emerged on the radar at Stamford Bridge with the Spain international impressing with his showings in the La Liga and courting interest from Premier League giants Manchester United in the recent past.
Tuchel would be delighted to land Torres in a deal which is expected to be cheaper than the rumoured £55 million agreement with Sevilla for Kounde’s long-awaited move to the Bridge.
