Chelsea are reportedly considering a shock approach for ex-manager Antonio Conte in another sensational development in the Blues’ well documented managerial search.
The Stamford Bridge giants brought in another of their former employees in Frank Lampard as their caretaker manager until the end of the season with the club’s ownership committed to a thorough search for a longer-term option.
According to a report from The Independent, it is claimed that the former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Conte could be involved in discussions over a surprise return to the Bridge for the Italian coach.
The report mentions that Chelsea have made initial contact with Conte and there may be a direct meeting next week with him should all go well with the next steps as Chelsea look to bring in an experienced name with a winner mentality.
The 53-year-old Conte just left Tottenham Hotspur over the recent international break after falling out with the club’s board and calling the Spurs players ‘selfish’ after they threw away a two-goal lead against relegation-threatened Southampton.
