Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the Telegraph.
This comes despite Mauricio Pochettino’s willingness to have Kepa Arrizabalaga as the starting goalkeeper for the next season. Maignan, who currently has a contract with Milan until 2026, has emerged as France’s first-choice goalkeeper following Hugo Lloris’ retirement.
The 27-year-old had an impressive season, keeping 10 clean sheets in 29 appearances across all competitions. As for Kepa, not much can be said about his situation, as he was dropped from the team by former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard in 2021 and replaced by Edouard Mendy.
However, Mendy’s form declined this season, leading to speculation about his potential departure from Chelsea. While he had performed well in the 2021/22 campaign, his performances were not up to par this season.
Meanwhile, Kepa was given another opportunity under Graham Potter but failed to inspire confidence.

The Spaniard is known for his ability to play out from the back but is considered weak in shot-stopping and commanding his box, which are crucial attributes in the Premier League.
Therefore, unless Chelsea and Pochettino have no other options, starting the season with Kepa may not be the ideal choice. On the contrary, the possibility of signing a goalkeeper of Maignan’s calibre should be eagerly pursued.
The Frenchman is described as a dominant goalkeeper who excels in saving shots, commanding his box, and playing out from the back.
His impressive performances at AC Milan have already showcased his abilities, making him a valuable addition to the Blues.
