Chelsea have confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old wing-back Malo Gusto before loaning him back to Lyon until the end of the season.
Gusto, who was courted aggressively by both Chelsea and Manchester United this month, will stay on loan at the Ligue 1 giants until the summer which is when he would link up with his new teammates in west London.
According to a report from ESPN, it is hinted that Chelsea could be in line to pay a fee of up to €40 million for the Lyon starlet with €30m guaranteed and a further €10m in potential add-ons.
It is understood that the Blues were not keen to loan back the player to Lyon but it proved to be the only way the transfer could be agreed with the French club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas insisting on that arrangement.
The promising defender becomes Chelsea’s seventh signing of the January transfer window as the club’s co-owner Todd Boehly has been hard at work to bolster the squad at the disposal of Graham Potter in the hopes of Chelsea bouncing back to form in the second half of the season.
