Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion with the Spaniard penning a six-year contract with his new side.
A statement from the club’s official website has revealed that Thomas Tuchel’s side bring in the 24-year-old Cucurella from Brighton for a reported £55 million transfer fee with a further £7 million in add-ons.
Cucurella enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in England’s top flight last term with his displays for Graham Potter’s Brighton earning him the Player of the Season honour by both Brighton supporters and team-mates.
The Blues, in search of reinforcements to bolster the backline at Tuchel’s disposal, had emerged as the frontrunners in recent days for landing Cucurella’s coveted signature this summer despite Manchester City’s long-standing interest in the wing-back.
Man City had baulked at Brighton’s asking price for their first-team star which came to Chelsea’s aid by forking out big money on their fourth major signing of the transfer window after Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Gabriel Slonina.
