Chelsea have announced the signing of Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana on a seven-year contract in a major boost to the Blues backline.
The French defender had been earmarked as Thomas Tuchel’s priority target to freshen his defensive lineup and his arrival is sure to provide the Chelsea boss with a quality name on the team sheet.
According to a report from BBC, the 21-year-old Fofana’s move to Chelsea comes for a fee in the region of £70 million with Chelsea sparing no expense to land one of the coveted name in this summer’s transfer window.
Fofana is now the third most expensive Premier League defender behind Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire and Liverpool star centre-back Virgil van Dijk with the former also leaving Leicester to sign for the Old Trafford giants in 2019.
The Frenchman was an influential player for Brendan Rodgers at the King Power Stadium which explains the Leicester head coach’s reluctance on green lighting his move away from the Midlands despite Chelsea’s big-money approach.
