Malang Sarr has signed for Chelsea FC on a five-year, confirmed the west London club. The France U21 international joins the Stamford Bridge outfit on a free transfer following his departure from Ligue 1 side Nice at the end of last season.
The center-back featured on more than 100 times across all competitions for Nice after making his debut for the French club in 2016. Sarr soon evolved into a regular in Nice’s first-team squad as a part of a back four played by the club’s manager, Patrick Vieira, an Arsenal legend.
It is understood that the player will be loaned out for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Such a decision is being made to ensure that Sarr gets valuable game time to develop further into a first-team option for the Blues in the coming years.
The 21-year old defender becomes Frank Lampard’s second signing of Thursday following Ben Chilwell’s capture from Leicester City being confirmed by the Blues earlier today. Thiago Silva is due to presented as a Chelsea FC player shortly, with the 35-year old too joining the west London club on a free transfer.
