An official statement put out by the club’s official website claims that the 26-year-old Spain international links up with the Blues on an initial season-long loan deal with Chelsea having the option to make the transfer permanent next summer.
Saul’s future with Atletico had been a hot topic this summer with the midfield man attracting interest from Chelsea’s rivals in the Premier League Liverpool and Manchester United with the rumour mill suggesting that the player was open to playing abroad.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool outfit had been backed as early favourites for the Spaniard but the Merseysiders pulled the plug on any potential deal and the space was soon taken by Chelsea who have landed the in-demand player on deadline day.
Saul becomes Thomas Tuchel’s second big arrival this summer after the Chelsea boss had splashed the cash on signing Romelu Lukaku from Serie A giants Inter Milan.
