The transfer window has opened and speculations are growing strong over Chelsea defender, Fikayo Tomori. It is still uncertain whether the young defender will stay in the club or take an exit to some other club for more game time.
The news media has talked with coach, Frank Lampard who is preparing for his Premier League away fixture against Fulham. On asked about Tomori’s move away from Stamford Bridge, Lampard assures that Tomori has a long future in the club.
The 20 years old defender had his break out season last year where the coach counted on him at the backline and handed him more than 20 games. This even earned him a chance to feature for the England national team as well.
‘He absolutely has a long-term future at this club,’ insisted coach Lampard as per the Chelsea’s Official website.
‘We’ll see if or when he goes on loan but the moment I got close to Fikayo was when I took him to Derby with me and he was player of the year there and one of the best players in the Championship that year in my opinion.
‘He came back here and played 20-plus games for us at a very young age last year and got in the England squad.
‘In my head, there is an absolute long-term plan for Fikayo about his career here. If it is to go and play games [on loan] it will be to absolutely enhance his personal development and hopefully help whatever team he goes to, because that will go hand in hand, and he will come back to us a better player.’
Lampard went on to say about how he saw this bright young defender whose defending skills impressed him when he took him to Derby.
Tomori has just featured in four games until now this campaign and the coach insists that a possible loan move will only help in his development. He got some minutes in the weekend’s 4-0 victory against Morecambe in the FA Cup match.
Only time will say what the future lies ahead of Tomori but a loan move away from the club for the remainder of the season is more likely to happen.
