Chelsea closing in on completing move for Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol

Chelsea are closing in on completing a move for Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol with the player’s father holding discussions with the boss Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues are in the market this summer for defensive reinforcements to shore up a backline which is losing the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilcueta following the expiry of their deals.

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, expected to be nearing his switch to the Stamford Bridge fold, could be followed to the English capital by Bundesliga talent Gvardiol, according to a report from the Croatian publication 24Sata.

It is claimed that Gvardiol’s father made the travels to London to chalk out a plan with Tuchel for the defender’s move to Chelsea who remain eager to wrap up the signing heading into the start of the new campaign come August.

A bid of €50 million is tipped to be enough to convince Leipzig to part ways with the 20-year-old Croatia international who is tied to the German giants until summer 2026 after earning rave reviews for his stellar run of displays.
