Chelsea buy Stoll mansions site for £80m to boost stadium rebuilding plans

According to the Evening Standard, the Board of Trustees at the Stoll Veterans charity has officially accepted an £80 million offer from Chelsea to buy their 1.2-acre Stoll Mansions site near Stamford Bridge.

This decision follows an extensive nine-week consultation process and an additional six weeks of internal talks within the Stoll charity.

The Blues outperformed 13 other competitive bids, bolstering their plans for the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge. The club is set to take control of the site by 2025.

The primary goal for the West Londoners is to renovate their existing 40,000-seat stadium, as this expansion is needed.

The redevelopment initiative is under the guidance of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, who assumed control of the club from Roman Abramovich last year.

Among their priorities is the desire to increase the stadium’s seating capacity to a minimum of 55,000. The ultimate decision about whether to rebuild the current site or move to some other place is still pending.

Will Campbell-Wroe, Stoll’s CEO, said:

“The Chelsea FC ownership group’s offer enables us to limit uncertainty for residents and offer support over a longer period of time.”

“The site at Fulham is just not fit for purpose for the long-term, and while this is a difficult time for our residents, it is something we must do to enable us to support veterans now and in the future.”

Stamford Bridge is a place of huge significance for the fans, as it pays homage to the club’s historical ties dating back to its establishment in 1905.

However, this would require a temporary move to a different venue, with Fulham’s Craven Cottage being the leading contender to host Chelsea’s home matches during the reconstruction phase.
