Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel hits out at Newcastle United for time-wasting

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel hit out at Newcastle United in his post-match remarks for time-wasting in Saturday’s outing at St. James Park.

The Blues ran out convincing victors on their travels away from home with a brace from Reece James and Jorginho’s strike securing a 3-0 win for Thomas Tuchel’s side who now lead Liverpool by three points in the league standings.

Tuchel, however, seemed frustrated by the time-wasting techniques employed by the hosts in the opening period of the game with the Chelsea boss voicing his concerns while speaking to reporters after the match.

“There were many interruptions in the game and they were delaying the game.

“If you are the team relied on for the intensity it is not easy.

“We relied on a good structure.

“We worked on counter-pressing because then you can increase the risk around the box and we relied on the counter-pressing to protect us from counter-attacks.

“This was good in the first half, then we brought more bodies to the box and increased the risk in the second half.”

With Liverpool dropping points in a 2-2 draw at Anfield against Brighton on Saturday, Chelsea’s win could prove to be of much importance to the title-winning credentials enjoyed by the west Londoners early on this new season.

Chelsea have put out terrific showings of lat despite mounting troubles on the injury front with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner set for a spell on the sidelines.
