Chelsea boss Graham Potter insisted it was up to Thiago Silva to weigh up whether or not to stay at the club beyond the end of the season when the latter’s contract is up for renewal.
Silva’s current terms are due to expire at the end of the season and it remains to be seen where his future lies amid speculation linking him with a return to the AC Milan camp.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League tie against the Italian champions at San Siro, Potter admitted that it was Silva’s decision to make with the Brazilian defender branded an ‘incredible’ player by the Chelsea boss, as quoted by 90min.
“I think the decision is Thiago’s. I’ve been here three or four weeks. I see his qualities. He’s an incredible person, incredible player. The level he can play at, the performance level he can reach, and the respect he has through the game is just incredible.
“All I can do is try and help him enjoy his football here, be part of a winning team and all of the rest is something for him and the club to think about.”
The Blues spent big on signing two new centre-backs in the summer transfer window with Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana the new captures as the latter arrived for a hefty price-tag from Leicester City.
Potter is rumoured to be in the market for another signing to bolster his backline with the Chelsea head coach, who took charge from Thomas Tuchel last month, set to be backed in the market by the owners.
