According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s pursuit of Enzo Fernandez has advanced even further, and a deal is almost certainly close. Enzo Fernandez‘s agency are working to make the transfer happen.
The Argentine midfielder was a key player for his country at the World Cup in Qatar. He was ever present for Lionel Scaloni’s side, and his contribution in the finals helped his side lift the prestigious golden trophy.
Fernandez’s form for Benfica can’t be questioned either, and for the same reason, the Portuguese outfit have slapped a €120 million price tag on his head. The 21-year-old is currently urging Chelsea to sign him, but the final decision will be taken by his parent club.
In January, Benfica had first refused to sell Fernandez unless the release clause was met. In order to be able to pay in a more preferred way, the Blues are paying more than the release clause. The Chelsea bid caught the Portuguese club off guard, and they are attracted to the deal. The only way the deal may fall through is if Benfica decides not to sell him until his release clause is met.
Liverpool and United are also keeping an eye on the midfielder’s status at the club. Todd Boehly would need to act swiftly to eliminate any potential competition from their direct rivals.
