Chelsea has launched a stinging attack on Fifa after winning their appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the second half of their two-window transfer ban and has also aimed a subtle dig at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in their statement.
FIFA had initially banned the Blues from signing players for two transfer windows, meaning that they would not be able to sign players during the entire 2019-20 season.
The Stamford Bridge side, however, appealed to CAS, who halved the suspension on Friday, meaning that the club is free to pursue the likes of Jadon Sanch and Wilfried Zaha in January.
However, the Blues are not impressed by the way their case has been handled and have complained about how unfairly they have been treated.
Chelsea’s statement read “The approach taken by Fifa to this case has been deeply unsatisfactory, not least as Fifa chose to treat Chelsea entirely differently to Manchester City for reasons that make absolutely no sense to Chelsea,”
“Chelsea respects the importance of the work undertaken by Fifa in relation to the protection of minors and has fully cooperated with Fifa throughout its investigation. However, if Fifa continues to impose inconsistent and unequal sanctions on clubs then it will not only undermine the very purpose of the regulations but it will also bring into doubt the game’s confidence in Fifa being able to appropriately regulate this important area.”
Chelsea currently sits fourth in the Premier League table, three points behind third-placed Man City and 14 behind table-topping Liverpool and faces a trip to Goodison Park on Saturday to face Everton who currently sits in the relegation zone and is without a manager.
