Former Fulham shot-stopper Marcus Bettinelli is nearing a move to Stamford Bridge with the player having agreed upon a two-year-long deal with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea outfit.
Reports from The Telegraph suggest that the 29-year-old goalkeeper is on his way to west London with Chelsea moving ahead of other suitors in the race including Arsenal who had been keeping close tabs on Bettinelli.
He has spent the last season on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough before being released by Fulham at the end of the 2020-21 campaign after which he was a free agent when the summer transfer window got underway.
Chelsea had lost out on their veteran figure between the sticks Willy Caballero this summer with the Argentina international calling it quits, meaning Tuchel needed to scout the transfer market for a new man to fill in the third-choice goalkeeping role at the Bridge ahead of the start of the new season.
Bettinelli will be below the likes of Edouard Mendy and Kepa in the pecking order but could hope to see some minutes on the pitch coming his way in the domestic cup commitments for Tuchel and Co.
