Chelsea struck inside the opening ten minutes of the weekend showdown with Mason Mount after being found by a Mateo Kovacic pass slotted his finish into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 for the hosts.

Kovacic turned provider for Chelsea’s second goal too with the Croatian midfielder setting up Callum Hudson-Odoi who was clinical in his effort past Norwich goalie Tim Krul.

The Blues added a third goal just before the half-time break and it was another academy graduate in Reece James who got on the scoresheet with the full-back assisted by Mason Mount.

Edouard Mendy had to be called into action when play resumed after the break with Norwich’s substitute Milot Rashica burst forward and created trouble for the Chelsea backline.

Thomas Tuchel’s men, however, were lethal on the attacking front and it was the man in form Ben Chilwell who scored his fourth goal in as many league outings.

Chilwell’s goal was followed up by Hudson-Odoi forcing Max Aarons to deflect the ball into his own net as Tim Krul could only look on helplessly.

Norwich had a man sent off which made matters worse for the visitors to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea in no mood to tone things down while going forward as Mason Mount doubled his tally from the spot following Mathias Normann’s handball.

Mount was then in the right spot at the right time in the dying embers of the game to clinch his first hat-trick for the Blues with Lotus-Cheek squaring the ball for his teammate to get his third and Chelsea’s seventh goal of the game.
