Chelsea won 4-0 against Morecambe and reached the fourth round of the FA Cup after three-match without victory. After a rough patch of weeks, Lampard didn’t risk as he named a strong first XI against the League Two side.
Birthday boy, Mason Mount who turned 22 yesterday opened the scoresheet for the Blues in just the 18th minute of the game from 18 yards distance. It was his fourth out of his 10 goals from outside the box- the most by any Chelsea player. Morecambe came close to score in Kepa Arrizabalaga’s 100th appearance for the Blues but Kepa prevented it brilliantly.
Chelsea’s German striker scored just before half-time to make it 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. This goal ended the goal drought of Werner and it was much needed for the striker who was struggling to get in form. Initially, he missed a golden opportunity to score a header but this time, he didn’t.
The third goal was netted by Callum Hudson Odoi who fired from a stunning through ball from Hakim Ziyech in the second half.
Morecambe’s keeper saved two fine efforts from Kai Havertz and Pulisic but after a few minutes, he couldn’t stop Chelsea from going 4-0. It was Kai Havertz who scored the last goal from a superb header of a ball crossed by Cesar Azpilicueta. It was quite a one-sided match as Chelsea dominated possession and shots on target from first to last.
