Thomas Tuchel rang in just one change to the side that was defeated by Leeds last time around with Trevoh Chalobah the new inductee on the Chelsea team sheet.

The home side nearly got an opener in the early stages of the game with a penalty that appeared to be coming their way only for the VAR check to overturn the decision.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher got his second booking of the game just before the half hour mark with the youngster sent off for a rash challenge on Harvey Barnes.

Reece James hit the woodwork with his effort while Leicester dangerman Jamie Vardy spurned a great chance down the other end with both sides heading into the break at nil-nil.

It was Thomas Tuchel’s men who broke the deadlock with new boy Raheem Sterling getting the opener with his strike taking a deflection off the toe of Daniel Amartey to find the back of the net.

Sterling got his second of the afternoon to hand Chelsea a convincing advantage but Leicester soon found a way back into the game with Vardy teeing up Harvey Barnes to make it 2-1.

Leicester created a handful of good changes in the last stages with Vardy going through on goal but to no avail with Chelsea ensuring the hard-won three points when the full time whistle was sounded out.
