Goals from Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho secured the win for Chelsea against the Foxes on Tuesday evening at Stamford Bridge and kept the club’s top-four hopes very much in the balance heading into the final game week this Sunday.
MATCH PROCEEDINGS
Chelsea were very much in control of the game early on and looked the more likely of the two teams who will draw first blood but the hosts just fell short when in front of the goal.
Timo Werner was involved in the shouts for a penalty pick when the German forward was brought down in the box by Youri Tielemans only for VAR to award Leicester with a free-kick.
Werner then thought he had scored the opener when he found the back of the net only minutes later but was ruled offside in the buildup to his effort as Thomas Tuchel’s side carried on their search for the goal that would give them the breakthrough.
With both teams coming onto the field after the half-time break it all came down to Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger to find the back of the net with his hip after Leicester had conceded a corner and were unable to clear the ball from the resulting set-piece.
Werner’s luck finally came in the form of him being brought down once again in the box and this time the referee was quick in his decision to award Chelsea a spot-kick which was converted with ease by Jorginho.
The Blues got a scare through the in-form Leicester striker Iheanacho who robbed the returning Mateo Kovacic of the ball and slotted his finish past Mendy to pull one back for the visitors.

But Chelsea proved capable in their efforts to hold onto a slender lead and eventually ensured all three points from the Stamford Bridge showdown to move into third place in the standings ahead of the Foxes.
