Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea were handed a shock 4-1 defeat by the visiting Brentford outfit in Saturday’s west London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Brentford looked the stronger of both teams right from kick-off as striker Ivon Toney went close on a number of occasions to trouble the Chelsea backline.

Edouard Mendy was called into action to make a low stop to deny Toney while Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek attempted to get their side back in the affair on the other end.

The game was nil-nil heading into the halftime break with either side unable to break the other down on the attacking front in the first Stamford Bridge showdown between Chelsea and Brentford in 75 years.

Chelsea got the second period off to a flying start thanks to a spectacular strike from centre-back Antonio Rudiger whose long-range effort landed in the back of the net via the inside of the post.

The visitors responded in style through Janelt and Brentford soon went ahead with the former Spurs man Eriksen slotting home from close range.

Janelt got his second of the game to put Brentford 3-1 in the lead with Chelsea looking resigned to suffering a first defeat on home turf since last September.

Kai Havertz had his strike ruled out for offside and Brentford showed no signs of mercy with substitute Wissa making it 4-1 for Thomas Farke’s men in the final stages.
