Chelsea were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Burnley on Saturday with Thomas Tuchel’s men unable to add to their winning streak on home turf.
MATCH PROCEEDINGS
The Blues had the first effort on goal through Callum Hudson-Odoi who was set up by Ross Barkley but the former’s strike was well saved by Burnley No.1 Nick Pope.
Andreas Christensen rose from a corner delivery to meet the ball with his head only for the Dane’s effort to go narrowly wide of the goalpost.
Barkley was at his brilliant best in the final third of the pitch and was a constant trouble for the Burnley backline who had to rely upon Pope to keep the scoreline nil-nil.
The breakthrough finally arrived for the home side with Reece James whipping in an inch-perfect cross into the box where Havertz made no mistake in the connection to get it past Pope to make it 1-0 for Chelsea.
Tuchel’s men held firm control over the proceedings early on in the second period with the likes of Barkley and Jorginho trying their luck to add to the advantage but to no avail.
Burnley made the most of a rare lapse of concentration from the Chelsea defensive line in the later stages of the game and Vydra was there to find the back of the net from close range and level the scoreline.
Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic were brought off the bench by Thomas Tuchel but the attacking duo were unable to turn the game back in their side’s favour in what remained of the contest.
