It was a slow start to the London derby affair at Stamford Bridge with neither side able to threaten in the attacking third of the pitch.
Mason Mount and the skipper Cesar Azpilicueta went close for the hosts but to no avail with West Ham keeping out a solid display at the back.
The Hammers enjoyed a great chance through on goal just before heading into the halftime break with Andriy Yarmolenko running in behind the Chelsea backline to strike his effort just beyond Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea got the second period underway on a good note with Timo Werner looking to threaten with a volley goalwards but Craig Dawson blocked it.
Thiago Silva and Chalobah did what was required to deny Tomas Soucek who was teed up by Yarmolenko around the hour mark into the game.
A setback came the home side’s way with a penalty awarded to them in the dying stages saved by Fabianski with Jorginho unable to give side the lead.
Christian Pulisic, however, came clutch with Marcos Alonso setting up the American international to strike first time into the bottom corner and secure the win for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
