The first chance of the game came Andreas Christensen’s way but the Denmark defender’s effort was too high for the opening goal to come through for the home side.

On the other end of the pitch, Edouard Mendy was called into action to deny Fabian Schar at the back post with Matt Targett putting in a teasing delivery.

Mason Mount found the side netting with his free kick effort with Newcastle seeing an Almiron volley palmed clear by Mendy as the half time whistle was sounded.

The second period has the Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel ring in changes from the bench with Romelu Lukaku and Mateo Kovacic coming on to provide the firepower for their side.

Hakim Ziyech teed up the lurking Kai Havertz only for the latter, who has been in fine form of late, unable to get the better of Dubravka.

Havertz, however, struck late on in the 89th minute with Jorginho setting up the former to finish past the goalkeeper in a stunning movement which resulted in Chelsea securing the three points up for grabs.
