Manchester City forced Chelsea into a defensive mode early on in the game with the visitors upping the pressure on Thomas Tuchel’s men in their attacking half.

Timo Werner found an opener for his strike partner Romelu Lukaku as he attempted to feed the Belgian with a teasing cross which could not get the required contact to go past Ederson.

Chelsea were in for a setback on the injury front with Reece James limping off the pitch with a rolled ankle as Thiago Silva was brought off the bench to take his spot at the back.

Both sides went into the half-time break at nil-nil as either attacking department was unable to find the opening goal to take the advantage.

The visitors got the second half off to a strong start in the final third of the pitch and were rewarded for their dominance when Jesus found himself in a great position to slot the ball into the back of the net.

Edouard Mendy was called into action following the opener and had to make some crucial saves to deny City from adding to their one-goal lead and put the match to bed.

The Manchester City defence put out a brave display in the dying stages of the game to prevent Chelsea from finding the leveller and despite Tuchel bringing on Kai Havertz from his bench to bolster his forward lineup, Pep Guardiola’s men sealed the win.
