Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta was satisfied with the response shown by his team-mates in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. Although the display does please the club captain, the frustration in the dressing room was clear and evident after Chelsea dropped two points in this game.
Lampard started the game with Olivier Giroud as his striker and the Frenchman took no longer to score a goal in the first half to give a 1-0 lead to Chelsea.
But Aston Villa found the equalizer and Chelsea could do nothing although they had enough time to score or find a winner. Azpilicueta started the second time in the last four games in place of Reece James at the right-back and found positivity n the stalemate at home ground.
‘We needed a reaction after Saturday’s performance but we’re disappointed not to get the three points,’ he said as per the Offical Chelsea Website.
‘We talked about showing more character because we were very disappointed with the result and the performance [against Arsenal]. We were far from the level this group has shown a few weeks ago.
‘From the first minute, the team competed well. We pushed until the end to get the three points but we couldn’t find a way.
‘We know how tough the Premier League is and how important every detail is. When you lose a center-back on the ground, you are one body less in the box. It was a good cross and they finished at the back post,’ he added.
The skipper pointed out the games with fine margins make a huge difference in the league table. He also stated the absence of Andreas Christensen during Aston Villa’s equalizer was one of the prime reasons for his team’s conceding the goal.
Christensen was on the ground as it claimed to have been fouled by the opposition player but the referee continued to play and in the meantime and the scoreline was equalized.
