The Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta has revealed that he believes Chelsea will be overtaking Manchester City on this particular date in order to dethrone them as table toppers.
Nobody at this moment is as confident as Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta in order to compete for the title against rivals Manchester City. The Blues registered a 3-1 victory against local London rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday which took them to 2nd place on the Premier League table and kept them in touching distance with leaders Manchester City two who are points ahead.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City stormed the Premier League title last term breaking plenty of records on the way. But Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta is keen on beating the Premier League champions when they meet each other on December 8th.
With four games between Chelsea vs Manchester City, Azpilicueta stated that Chelsea should win their remaining games and focus on beating the title favorites.
While speaking to reporters, the 29-year-old Spaniard explained that Chelsea cannot afford to drop points if they want to go ahead of Manchester City, “It’s in our hands. Obviously, if we don’t drop points, we have the chance to do it (on December 8), We know that to get to that chance, you have to get the three points in games as we had against Crystal Palace. We cannot drop points, we need to work hard, keep improving and let’s see on that day if we have the chance to do it. We are happy with our results. We know that we can still do better and the League is very tough – you have to fight for every game.”
Azpilicueta also said that it would be difficult but not impossible, “This table at the moment is something that we want – to be at the top at the end. We know that it’s going to be difficult, but we know how to win the Premier League and we will try.”
Chelsea does have a great chance of competing for the Premiership this season and they are showing that they are serious contenders. Hopefully, Chelsea can overcome Manchester City in their clash and make the title race slightly more interesting.
