Brighton got the game underway on the front foot in the final third with Jakub Moder coming close to finding an early opening goal.
For the visitors, it was the skipper Cesar Azpilicueta who forced a save from Brighton’s man between the goalposts in Robert Sanchez but Graham Potter’s men took control once again going forward on goal.
The Blues, however, were the ones to break the deadlock in the 28th minute through Hakim Ziyech who had his fantastic 25-yard effort land in the bottom right-hand corner.
Tuchel’s side could have added to their advantage heading into the interval but Callum Hudson-Odoi’s well-worked move ended up seeing his effort over the bar.
Brighton got back in the game despite Kepa’s heroics with the home side making the most of a corner kick as Adam Webster headed from close range to level the scoreline.
Romelu Lukaku went close after being set up by Antonio Rudiger but the former’s effort drew a superb save from Sanchez with Chelsea on the hunt for their second goal of the game.
Changes off the bench failed to provide the much-needed cutting edge in front of the goal for Chelsea who had to settle for another stalemate in a blow to their title hopes.
